Then He was betrayed, beaten, mocked, put on trial, and executed by being nailed to a wooden cross by Roman soldiers. In all of this, Jesus gained a perfect and divine understanding of what every person on this earth has ever suffered. Whatever your struggles, the Savior knows what you are going through and knows how to help you if you turn to Him. Three days after Jesus died, He rose from the dead and overcame physical death, just as He overcame spiritual death due to sin. By living according to His teachings and having faith in Him, you can have more peace and happiness in life and inherit an unimaginable life of eternal joy with God. -

The sacrament reminds us of Jesus Christ Before He was condemned to death and nailed to the cross, Jesus gathered 12 Apostles whom He had chosen to lead His Church. At the Last Supper, the Savior broke bread, blessed it, and asked them to eat it as a reminder of His body that would be offered for them. Then Jesus blessed wine and asked them to drink it as a reminder of His blood that would be shed for them. We still practice this ordinance, called the sacrament. Every Sunday in the Church, those who hold God's authority, called the priesthood, bless the broken bread and water, which symbolize Jesus' sacrifice, and pass them around the congregation. When we partake of the sacrament, we remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us and renew the promises we made to God at baptism. Churches Strengthen Us One of the important reasons to belong to a church, rather than just trying to be a good person, is because of the ordinances that God gives us through the priesthood. Another benefit of churches is that we are strengthened by worshiping God and Jesus with fellow Christians. In the Bible, Mark 12:41–44, we read that one day Jesus sat overlooking the treasury in the temple and watched people coming to give gifts to the temple. After the wealthy people had donated large sums, a widow came and donated two lepta, the smallest currency, to the treasury. Jesus called out to his disciples and said that the widow had put more into the treasury than the rich man because the rich man had donated from his surplus money that he did not really need, whereas the widow had put in her "full living expenses." In the same way, we can have faith that our efforts to live righteously will be judged individually, according to our individual abilities and circumstances. Notes/Translation: What Matters Most - In one of Jesus Christ's most famous sermons, known as the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus explained powerful truths about God's law and how we can obtain eternal life. In that sermon and parts of other sermons, Jesus taught that we should focus on God first. Jesus taught His disciples, or followers, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth consume, and where thieves break through and steal." Instead, we should live righteously and lay up treasures in heaven, for "where thy treasure is, there shall thy heart be also" (see Matthew 6:19–21). Jesus also taught, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will be devoted to the one, and despise the other" (see Matthew 6:24). In other words, we cannot divide our loyalties between God and the desires of this world. The rest of the Sermon on the Mount explains how we can serve God through attributes such as humility and sincerity and through practices such as prayer and service to others. Missionaries in your area can teach you about the Bible. They can help you find the Sermon on the Mount and learn more about the truths Jesus taught. -

Notes/Translation: Christlike compassion - During His life, Jesus Christ established His Church in the Middle East, as recorded in the Bible. After suffering and dying for our sins and being resurrected from the dead, He appeared to the people of the Americas and established His Church there. The Book of Mormon, which tells the history of God's people in the Americas, records that Jesus taught these people the same truths that He taught the people around Jerusalem. One example is the principle of not judging others. Both the Bible and the Book of Mormon record Jesus' teaching that we leave our judgment to God, who knows us perfectly, and the Book of Mormon warns us, "With the judgment that ye judge ye shall be judged" (see 3 Nephi 14:2). The Bible tells the story of a woman who was caught in adultery, a serious sin that involves having sexual relations with someone other than her husband. At that time, the Jewish people were following the Law of Moses, which required the woman to be stoned to death. But when the woman was brought before Jesus, He simply told the crowd, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her" (John 8:7). And one by one, the crowd went away. The only One with true authority to judge the human heart, the Savior, remained to speak with the woman after suffering and dying for our sins. Sometimes it feels difficult to become more like Jesus, but missionaries can help you become more like Him. -

In 3 Nephi 18:18-20 of the Book of Mormon, Jesus Christ taught us to be strong against the temptation to do evil: "Watch and pray always." He continued: "And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold, whatsoever ye shall ask shall be given unto you." When we pray as Jesus taught, we begin by addressing God respectfully. We thank Him for the things we are grateful for, ask Him for the things we need or want for the right reasons, and end by saying, "In the name of Jesus Christ, amen." Part of prayer is listening for answers from God. These answers often come from the Holy Ghost, who is the third member of the divine world alongside God and Jesus Christ. You may experience the influence of the Holy Ghost as a warm, comforting feeling, a sudden idea, or a warning against something you want to do. Answers to prayer can also come from something you read or hear, or from someone who can help you. God knows what is best for you, and He will help you when you turn to Him. Prayer can bring comfort and guidance and help you draw closer to Him. -

Notes/Translation: Why is forgiveness important? - Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for us. Therefore, when we make mistakes, we can be forgiven by God by repenting. This forgiveness erases our sins (or disobedience to God) as if they never happened. Jesus taught many things about repentance and forgiveness. Repentance is a personal process, but it includes feeling sincere sorrow for our mistakes, confessing to God, making amends as best we can, and striving not to sin again. Jesus taught that to receive forgiveness from God, we must forgive others not just once but many times. "Judge not, that ye shall not be judged; and condemn not, that ye shall not be condemned; forgive, and ye shall be forgiven" (Luke 6:37). By striving to let go of past malice, bitterness, hatred, and thoughts of revenge, and striving to forgive others, you will feel more peace in your life. -

Hero Copy: イエス・キリストは務めを果たす中で，多くの奇跡を行われました。目の見えない人を見えるようにし，水をぶどう酒に変え，嵐を静めたほか，人々を死からよみがえらせることすらおできになったのです。聖書とモルモン書は，イエスに信仰を抱いた多くの人々について伝えています。聖書のマルコによる福音書5章には，12年間，深刻な病に苦しんできたある女性の話がつづられています。イエスが混雑した通りを歩いておられたときのこと，イエスに触れれば癒しを受けられると信じたこの女性は，手を伸ばし，イエスの衣に触りました。「わたしの着物にさわったのはだれか」とイエスがお尋ねになると，女性はイエスの足もとにひれ伏し，自分のしたことを認めます。するとイエスは，女性を慰めてこのように言われました。「娘よ，あなたの信仰があなたを救ったのです。安心して行きなさい。すっかりなおって，達者でいなさい。」このようにして，彼女は癒しを受けました。わたしたちは，イエスの神に対する信仰の模範からも学ぶことができます。信仰とは時に，それが困難なものであっても，自分に対する神の意志を受け入れることであると教えてくれています。  イエスは，わたしたちの罪のために苦しみを受け，十字架上で痛ましい死を遂げる前，ゲツセマネの園において，もし神の御心であるならば，待ち受ける運命を免れることができるようにと祈られました。「しかし，わたしの思いではなく，みこころが成るように」（ルカ22：18参照）と続けておられます。すると神は，わたしたちの救い主としての使命を果たすイエスを強めるために，天使を遣わされました。 皆さん一人一人の救い主であるイエス・キリストに対する信仰，また，皆さんにとって最善のものを御存じの愛に満ちた神に対する信仰を育もうと努力するなら，祝福がもたらされることでしょう。  信仰を強める方法については，宣教師からお伝えすることができます。

Notes/Translation: Let faith guide your life - Jesus Christ performed many miracles during His ministry. He could give sight to the blind, turn water into wine, calm storms, and even raise people from the dead. The Bible and the Book of Mormon tell of many people who had faith in Jesus. In the Bible, in Mark chapter 5, we find the story of a woman who had been seriously ill for 12 years. As Jesus walked through a crowded street, the woman reached out and touched His garments, believing that she could be healed by touching Him. Jesus asked her, "Who touched my garments?" The woman fell at His feet and acknowledged what she had done. Jesus then comforted her, saying, "Daughter, thy faith has made thee whole; go in peace; be made whole, and be well." And so she was healed. We can also learn from Jesus' example of faith in God. It teaches us that faith means accepting God's will for us, even when it is sometimes difficult. In the Garden of Gethsemane, before Jesus suffered for our sins and died a painful death on the cross, He prayed to be spared the fate that awaited Him if it was God's will. He continued, "Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done" (see Luke 22:18). God then sent an angel to strengthen Jesus in His mission as our Savior. You will be blessed as you strive to develop your faith in your personal Savior, Jesus Christ, and in a loving God who knows what is best for you. The missionaries can teach you how to strengthen your faith. -

Notes/Translation: Do all things with love - Love was the central theme in everything Jesus Christ did and taught. When Jesus was asked, "What is the greatest commandment?" He answered that the first commandment is to love God "with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind," and the second commandment is to "love your neighbor as yourself." He explained that "on these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets" (see Matthew 22:37-40). Jesus showed love and compassion to everyone he encountered. He taught His followers to feed the hungry, care for the sick, welcome strangers into their homes, and visit those in prison. Jesus explained that when we do these things for others, it is counted as doing them for God. In talking about love, Jesus made it clear that it is not enough to just love our family and friends. Being a true follower of Jesus requires that we love the outcasts, the strangers, and even our enemies. By practicing love for God and for those around us, we can draw closer to Jesus. Missionaries can show us how. -

Notes/Translation: Knowing Jesus Christ - Welcome to the 12-part email series, "The Teachings of Jesus Christ," from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this email series, we will share some of Jesus' teachings that have inspired Christians around the world to follow him. Before we get to know his teachings, let me answer an important question: "Who is Jesus Christ?" Jesus was chosen to save us all As Christians, we believe in a higher power. We believe in a God, the Father of our spirits. Before we were born, we lived with God, and He created a perfect plan of happiness for all of us. We come to earth, receive a body, face trials, learn and grow to be like Him, and then we return to live with Him and receive all of the great blessings He has for us. He knew that we would make mistakes on this earth and would be unworthy to return and live in His perfect and holy presence. We needed a Savior, someone who could pay the price for all our mistakes and overcome death so we could return to live with God and our families in eternal joy and peace. Jesus Christ willingly came to earth to save us all from sin and death. He was chosen by God to be the Savior of the world, and He created the earth under God's direction. Jesus Is More than a "Great Teacher" From sacred books written by ancient prophets and historians, the Bible and the Book of Mormon, we learn that Jesus was literally born as the "Son of God" near Jerusalem more than 2,000 years ago. Jesus was a Great Teacher, setting a perfect example for us to follow in gaining eternal life with God. But we believe that Jesus was more than a teacher and a miracle worker. When Jesus was falsely accused and executed by crucifixion, He suffered and died for all of us. He took on our pain and sins so that we could be relieved of our burdens if we repent and follow Him. On the third day after His death, He rose from the dead. Jesus’ sacrifice and victory over death paved the way for us to gain eternal life with God. If We Follow Jesus, Our Lives Will Be Better During Jesus’ lifetime, people doubted whether He was who He said He was. Jesus taught that anyone who follows His teachings can know “whether it be of God, or whether it be of [Jesus] himself” (see John 7:17). For thousands of years since then, billions of people around the world have tested Jesus’ words and found that following Jesus makes them better people and gives them true joy. People believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior because they have seen the blessings He promised come into their lives when they live by His teachings. You can do the same by following Jesus' teachings and seeing your life change for the better. -
